book worm...

I have an obsession with old books.
I got these really cool black leather books at an auction the other week.
Books are a great addition to any room.
If you don't like the covers, you can cover them up.
Here I used some of my french paper, but you could use newsprint, wallpaper, wrapping paper....

butterfly boxes

I have to stop creating and start pricing...but I had this idea in my head.
Along the same lines of the nest boxes I made earlier, I came across these pretty butterflies.
So I made these last night.  Same shadow boxes and french paper.

I think they are pretty.i might keep these for my bedroom :)

pretty gift boxes

An easy way to make any gift special is to dress up the box.
Here I took simple paper mache' boxes and used some of those special edged scissors and cut some scrap book paper and modge podged it onto the box.
Tie it off with a pretty ribbon and you have a very special gift!

button, button who's got the button...

When I was a little girl, we used to go to my Grandmas house every Sunday.
My dads parent's house.  I always looked forward to it for a few reasons.
Grandma always gave my sister and I a dime.  Every Sunday.
We would ride the wagon down the hill from the barn.
We would dig in the garden and ALWAYS find an arrow head.
We would go in the chicken house and collect eggs.
But the thing I always looked forward to most, was Uncle Carls visit.
He was my favorite uncle.
I LOVED him!  I actually wanted to move in with him I loved him so much.
He always played a game - "button, button, who's got the button!"  Did anyone else ever play that game as a little girl?
So... long story... but now every time I see buttons, I think of my Uncle Carl who turns 93 this year!
He still goes to work everyday!  Amazing!
I especially love button cards.  I love the thought process that went into organizing them.  Some are really beautiful!

cool quick artwork

Here is a fun quick project for making some really cool artwork for your home!
Start with an old dictionary or some old sheets of music. Rip the pages out and load into your printer.
Find some graphics you like on line.  Size them to fit your dictionary pages
(in my case they were 8 1/2 x 11)
Print the graphics onto the sheets.
You can cut your own mattes or get them from Hobby Lobby when they are half off.
Hobby Lobby rotates their sales weekly, so everything comes up for sale at least once a month.
I LOVE Hobby Lobby.  I should buy stock in them because I am there at least once a week.
You can get your frames there for half off too!
These look great grouped together too.
Cool, fun, quick artwork!
I will be selling these at the Barn Sale.

3 french hens!

People often ask me where I came up with the name French Hen Farm.
Actually my mom came up with the name.
I knew I wanted something in the name about my beloved farm or my chickens.
A few years ago , my mom saw a Christmas card that had a picture of a chicken and the words "3 French Hens" and she said "French Hen Farm!"  There are three daughters in my family and my mom thought that was the perfect name, so we became French Hen Farm.
I LOVE my chickens.  My husband HATES my chickens.  I love watching them cluck around the yard.
They are so much fun to watch on a summer day. They are the pretty, fluffy kind, called Silkies.
I have to agree with my hubby though, they are a lot harder to take care of in the winter.
You have to make sure they are warm, and dry and their water doesn't freeze, and that they are fed.
We have to make sure that my son feeds and waters them.  This is one of his chores...
He is not very good at his chores... so it becomes my husbands chore.
Hence, the reason my hubby HATES my chickens!
